Each May and June, thousands of Atlantic horseshoe crabs crawl onto the sandy beaches of Delaware Bay at high tide to lay their eggs. Delaware Bay has one of the largest gatherings of them in the world. Hungry migrating shorebirds called red knots time their stop here to feast on the tiny green eggs before flying on to the Arctic.

Arabian horses come from the Arabian Peninsula, where Bedouin families bred them in the desert for many centuries. The central region of Najd, where Riyadh now stands, was known for its horses. They are light and quick, and Arabian blood helped to form many other breeds, including the Thoroughbred.

Near the town of Haines in southeast Alaska lies the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, a river valley. In late autumn, thousands of bald eagles gather along the Chilkat River, where salmon spawn late in the year and the water stays open in the cold. The eagles feed on the fish in the shallows, and the trees along the river fill up with them.
