Siamese cats are usually traced to Siam, the old name of Thailand. Old Thai manuscripts describe pale cats with dark ears, faces, paws and tails. Bangkok is the capital, and the first Siamese cats to reach Britain in the 1880s came from there.

2. Where have Triceratops fossils been found?
Answer: Makoshika State Park, Montana, USA
Makoshika State Park sits near the town of Glendive in eastern Montana. Its eroded badlands expose Hell Creek rocks, and Triceratops bones have been dug up there. About 66 million years ago the same land was a warm plain near a shallow sea, and Triceratops was one of its most common plant eaters.

3. Where do wild Lord Howe Island stick insects live?

The Lord Howe Island stick insect was once common on Lord Howe Island, a small island in the Tasman Sea. Black rats reached the island in 1918, and the insect was thought to be extinct. In 2001, scientists found a tiny group on Ball's Pyramid, a tall sea stack about 20 kilometres away. Zoos, including Melbourne Zoo, now breed them.

Ngorongoro Crater in northern Tanzania is a huge, ancient volcanic bowl with grasslands, a soda lake and patches of forest. Spotted hyenas live here in large groups called clans, and the females are in charge. They hunt across the crater floor and also clean up leftovers.

Blue whales swim in every ocean except the Arctic, and one place to see them is off Mirissa on the south coast of Sri Lanka. The sea floor drops away into deep water close to the shore there. Blue whales feed on krill, which are tiny shrimp-like animals, and a big whale can eat several tonnes of them in a day.
