Toronto in Canada is well known for its city raccoons. Raccoons naturally live in woods near streams and ponds, but they also do well in cities, where they search gardens and bins for food at night. Their nimble front paws work almost like hands and can open latches and lids.

Hanifaru Bay is a tiny bay in Baa Atoll in the Maldives. From about May to November, currents sweep plankton into the bay, and dozens of manta rays gather to feed. They swim in circles with their mouths wide open, scooping up the tiny food. Baa Atoll is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

All Scottish Folds trace back to a white barn cat named Susie, found on a farm near Coupar Angus in Perthshire, Scotland, in 1961. Her ears folded forward. A neighbour named William Ross got one of her kittens and began breeding the cats.

Dauphin Island is a small barrier island off the coast of Alabama, on the Gulf of Mexico. In spring, tired ruby-throated hummingbirds land in its trees after flying across the Gulf, a trip of hundreds of kilometres over open water. They rest and feed on nectar and insects here before they carry on north.
