5. Where does the Labrador retriever come from?
Answer: St. John's, Canada
Labrador retrievers are usually traced to the island of Newfoundland in Canada. Fishermen there used strong swimming dogs to haul nets and fetch fish. Saint John's is the island's biggest city and gave its name to the small water dogs that were the Labrador's ancestors. Visitors took some to England in the 1800s, and breeders there shaped the modern Labrador.
